Chapter 2 – The Wedding That Never Happened

The silence inside the cathedral became unbearable.
Adrian stared at the ultrasound in his trembling hands as though it might suddenly disappear.
"No..." he whispered again. "This can't be real."
"It is," Mia replied calmly. "The hospital confirmed the pregnancy three months after our divorce. I didn't even know I was pregnant when we signed the papers."
The officiant quietly stepped back.
No one moved.
Every guest watched the groom unravel before their eyes.
Celeste forced a laugh.
"She's lying."
Her voice was confident at first, but no one joined her.
"She forged those documents."
Mia slowly handed another envelope to Adrian.
"Open it."
Inside was a certified prenatal DNA report. During the divorce, Adrian had unknowingly submitted a DNA sample as part of routine corporate legal paperwork involving identity verification. Mia's attorney had legally matched it through a court-approved process after establishing paternity.
Adrian read every page.
Then read them again.
His hands shook so violently the papers slipped onto the marble floor.
"I... I'm the father."
The words echoed through the cathedral.
Celeste grabbed his arm.
"Adrian, don't believe her! She's trying to ruin our wedding!"
He slowly turned toward her.
"You told me she could never have children."
"You told me she was hiding another man."
"You said she wanted money."
Celeste's face turned pale.
"I was protecting us..."
"No."
His voice cracked.
"You were protecting yourself."
For the first time since the ceremony began, Adrian looked directly at Mia—not with arrogance, but with overwhelming regret.
"I'm sorry."
Mia smiled sadly.
"You should have believed me when I was your wife."
She turned and walked away.

No one stopped her.
Behind her, the wedding ceremony quietly fell apart.
