The deleted file was recovered from a drive labeled PHASE TWO at 3:46 the next morning.
Carter called Nina first.
Nina called me at 4:02.
I answered before the first ring finished.
"They found the plan," she said.
I sat up in bed.
Emma was asleep beside me.
"What plan?"
"Project Stable Home."
The words did not sound real anymore.
They sounded like the title of a nightmare somebody had put into a spreadsheet.
Nina asked me to come to the station after sunrise.
At seven thirty, Carter led us into a conference room.

PHASE THREE - CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT / ACUTE EVENT.
My stomach dropped.

But it proved the plan moved among devices associated with all three.

Rebecca.
Carter finally said what I had been waiting to hear.
"We are presenting this to the county attorney today."
"For charges?"
"For charging review."
"What charges?"
"Potential stalking, invasion of privacy, unlawful interception, conspiracy, witness tampering, obstruction, and offenses related to forged documents."
My eyes burned.
"And Daniel?"
"If the prosecutor agrees the evidence establishes probable cause, yes."
I should have felt relief.
Instead, a different fear rose.
Daniel was most dangerous when he knew control was slipping.
At eleven, Whitaker received notice that prosecutors had subpoenaed Daniel's business records.
By noon, he filed a motion accusing me of weaponizing the criminal investigation to influence custody.
By one, Rebecca took an indefinite leave from the bank.

By three, Voss's business website disappeared.
By four, someone set fire to a dumpster behind the Midstate Security Integration office.

Carter did not call it connected.

Then there were three unfinished tasks.
SECONDARY PACKAGE.
CHILD TRANSFER.
FINALIZE BEFORE REVIEW HEARING.
The review hearing was six days away.
Nina read the screen twice.
"Child transfer could mean the custody transfer they wanted from the judge."
Carter nodded.
"Could."
I heard what neither wanted to say.
Could mean something else.
At 6:11, Marisol called.
Emma was with her at the advocacy center after school.
Someone had sent a flower arrangement to the front desk.
No card.
No sender.
Tucked between the flowers was a folded piece of paper.
Marisol did not show it to Emma.
She photographed it and sent the image to Carter.
He forwarded it to me.
The note was printed in block letters.
THE HOUSE WAS ONLY TEST ONE.
Below that was a second line.
