CHAPTER 1 — The Blue Blanket Truth

The hospital corridor felt colder the moment Quincy’s words fell into silence.

“The baby isn’t dead.”

The mother froze.

Her breath caught in her throat like it had forgotten how to escape.

The husband finally turned—slowly, sharply.

“What did you just say?” he asked, voice tight.

Quincy didn’t answer him. His eyes stayed on his mother.

“I heard them,” he whispered. “Two nurses. They said she was still breathing.”

The grandmother’s Bible slipped slightly in her hands.

“No,” she said immediately. “That’s confusion. Trauma. Children misunderstand things.”

But Quincy shook his head.

“I followed them.”

A long silence.

Then—

The mother tried to sit up, pain shooting through her body.

“Where?”

Quincy stepped back.

“Behind the hospital.”

The hallway outside the emergency ward felt endless.

Every step the mother took was unstable, supported only by panic and instinct.

The husband followed behind, silent.

The grandmother refused to come.

“She’s gone,” she kept repeating. “Don’t chase sin into darkness.”

But the mother didn’t stop.

Because grief no longer mattered.

Only truth did.

Behind the hospital.

Near the metal bins marked MEDICAL WASTE.

The smell alone almost broke her.

Quincy stopped.

“There.”

A blue blanket.

Small.

Too small.

On the ground.

The mother dropped to her knees instantly.

Her hands shook as she reached for it.

“No… no, no—”

The husband finally rushed forward—

But froze when he saw the movement.

A faint rise.

May you like

A breath.

Inside the blanket.
