CHAPTER 4 — “The Ride Back” (FINAL CHAPTER)

The diner doors slammed open.

Wind and rain rushed in.

A group of bikers stood outside—silent, disciplined.

Not celebrating.

Hunting.

The waitress stepped back instinctively.

The boy didn’t move.

Jax stood up slowly.

This wasn’t fear.

This was recognition.

“They found you,” the waitress whispered.

Jax didn’t look at her.

He looked at the boy.

For a long second, he studied him.

Every detail.

Every feature he had missed for six years.

Then he made a decision.

He pulled off his leather vest.

And placed it over the boy’s shoulders.

“You stay inside,” he said quietly.

The boy grabbed his sleeve.

“No.”

Just one word.

Simple.

Strong.

Jax paused.

That moment broke something in him.

Outside, engines shut off one by one.

The leader stepped forward into the doorway.

“You were never supposed to start a second life, Jax,” the man said.

Jax stepped out.

Rain hit his face immediately.

“I didn’t start it,” he replied. “I just got it back.”

The boy followed anyway.

Small steps.

No fear.

Just certainty.

The waitress watched from behind the counter, frozen between stopping him… or understanding why she couldn’t.

Jax turned slightly.

Seeing his son standing beside him.

For the first time in years…

he wasn’t alone.

The leader raised his hand.

But Jax didn’t flinch.

Because now it wasn’t about survival.

It was about legacy.

About truth.

About what was left behind finally being claimed.

The boy looked up at him.

“Are you going to leave again?”

Jax shook his head.

“No.”

A pause.

Then—

“Not this time.”

The engines roared back to life.

But Jax didn’t run.

He walked forward.

And the boy walked with him.

May you like

Side by side.

Into the rain.
