CHAPTER 3 — “THE NAME THEY COULDN’T CONTROL”

The lawyer arrived within twenty minutes.

No rush.

No panic.

Like he already knew the ending.

He stepped into Room 237, placed a briefcase on the table, and looked around once.

Then he nodded at me.

“Good. You called them.”

The groom frowned.

“Who are you?”

The lawyer didn’t look at him.

He looked at me.

And said:

“Shall we proceed?”

I didn’t answer.

I just nodded.

He opened the briefcase.

Inside—

documents.

Stacks of them.

Signed.

Stamped.

Legally binding.

The groom’s father stepped forward.

“What is this?”

The lawyer finally looked at him.

“This is the merger agreement your family has been trying to secure for three years.”

A pause.

Then the truth landed.

“You weren’t marrying a woman.”

“You were merging into her company.”

The room changed temperature.

The groom’s face went pale.

“That’s impossible…”

The lawyer slid a document across the table.

“My client owns controlling interest in your entire holding group.”

Silence.

Not shock.

Collapse.

The maid of honor whispered:

“You… didn’t know?”

But I didn’t look at her.

I only looked at him.

The man I was supposed to marry.

Who now understood something too late.

He wasn’t betrayed by love.

He was exposed by power.

The father stepped back slowly.

For the first time in his life, he had nothing to say.

The lawyer closed the briefcase.

“And unfortunately,” he added calmly, “the wedding contract you signed this morning?”

A pause.

“It is now legally invalidated due to breach of trust clause.”

My groom whispered:

“What happens now?”

I finally spoke.

Calm.

Clear.

May you like

Final.

“Now… you explain to 300 guests why the groom never arrived.”
