CHAPTER 2 — The House That Turns Against You

The security team arrived within minutes.
Not just guards—my private legal unit followed behind them.
Victoria realized too late that this wasn’t a domestic argument anymore.
This was containment.
Lily was taken to the private medical unit downstairs, wrapped in blankets, still silent.
I didn’t leave her side until the elevator doors closed.
Only then did I return upstairs.
Victoria was standing near the window now, arms crossed, trying to rebuild control.
“You’re destroying everything over a misunderstanding,” she said.
I laughed once.
No humor in it.
“You beat a child on broken shells.”
Her jaw tightened.
“She disrespected me.”
That sentence.
That was the moment something inside me went completely still.
I stepped closer.
“Say that again.”
She hesitated.
For the first time, she wasn’t sure of her voice.
“I am your wife,” she tried again. “You can’t just throw me out.”
I looked at the security lead.
“Take her.”
Victoria snapped.
“You’ll regret this!”
As they moved toward her, she reached for something on the table—her phone.
But one of my guards was faster.
The screen lit up for half a second.
A message thread.
Names I recognized.
And one line that made the air in the room turn colder than glass:
“She’s out of the way now. The daughter is next.”
I didn’t move.
But my voice dropped into something dangerous.
“Stop everything.”
Everyone froze.
Even Victoria.
May you like
Because now I wasn’t looking at her like a husband.
I was looking at her like an investigation.
