Chapter 1 — The Splash Everyone Remembered

Jack climbed out of the pool coughing.

His white polo clung to his chest. His hair covered his eyes. The crowd that had laughed with him only minutes ago now stood completely still.

Nobody helped him.

Nobody clapped for him.

Nobody called him strong.

John stood beside Ana, one hand steady around hers.

“Are you hurt?” he asked.

Ana shook her head, but her voice trembled.

“I’m fine.”

She was lying.

Everyone could see it.

Jack wiped water from his face and pointed at John.

“You’re dead,” he snapped. “Do you know who my father is?”

John looked at him calmly.

“No.”

Then he looked around at the crowd.

“But now everyone knows who you are.”

That hit harder than the kick.

Phones were still recording.

Guests whispered.

Jack’s friends slowly stepped away from him, pretending they had never laughed.

Then resort security arrived.

Jack immediately changed his story.

“She slipped!” he shouted. “He attacked me for no reason!”

Ana lowered her eyes.

She knew how men like Jack survived.

They lied first.

They blamed second.

They won because people were afraid to speak.

But this time, a little girl near the lounge chairs raised her phone.

“No,” she said softly. “I recorded everything.”

The entire pool area went silent again.

Jack’s face changed.

For the first time, fear replaced arrogance.
