Chapter 2 — The Man Behind Jack

One hour later, Ana sat in a private resort office wrapped in a towel.

Her hands still shook.

Across from her, the resort manager watched the video on a laptop. Jack shoving her. The tray flying. Ana falling. Jack laughing.

There was no misunderstanding.

No accident.

No excuse.

Then the office door opened.

A tall man in a gray suit walked in without knocking.

Victor Hale.

Jack’s father.

Hotel owner. Charity donor. A man used to buying silence before dinner.

He looked at Ana for less than one second.

Then he looked at John.

“You assaulted my son.”

John leaned back in his chair.

“Your son assaulted her first.”

Victor smiled thinly.

“You should be careful. People like you disappear from places like this.”

Ana went cold.

Jack had learned cruelty from somewhere.

Now she knew where.

Victor placed a check on the desk and slid it toward Ana.

“Take it. Sign a statement saying you slipped. This ends today.”

Ana stared at the check.

For one second, everyone thought she might take it.

Then she stood.

Slowly.

Still soaked. Still embarrassed. Still scared.

But not silent anymore.

“You don’t get to buy what happened to me.”

Victor’s smile vanished.

John stood beside her.

The resort manager turned the laptop toward Victor.

“There are twelve videos,” he said. “From twelve different guests.”

Victor froze.

Then the manager added one final sentence.

“And the charity board is already watching them.”

Jack’s father had power.

But not enough to erase the truth from a hundred phones.
