Chapter 1: The Meeting at 9:00

At exactly nine o’clock the next morning, Emily found Olivia Carter waiting in the corner booth of a quiet hotel café.

Olivia looked nothing like a woman about to be destroyed.

She wore a cream coat, pearl earrings, and a calm expression so controlled it almost frightened Emily.

“Sit down,” Olivia said gently.

Emily did.

Her hands trembled as she placed her phone on the table.

“I’m sorry,” Emily whispered. “I didn’t know what else to do.”

Olivia’s eyes stayed on her face.

“Tell me everything.”

So Emily did.

The quiet hallway.
The half-open door.
Sophia’s hand on Daniel’s chest.
Daniel’s smile.
The words: No one’s here.

Olivia did not cry.

She did not gasp.

She simply looked down at the photo Emily had taken of Daniel’s office door and nameplate.

Then she gave a small, bitter smile.

“So he finally got careless.”

Emily froze.

“Finally?”

Olivia looked up.

“My husband has been lying to me for months. But I needed proof. Real proof.”

Emily’s stomach tightened.

“You already suspected Sophia?”

“I suspected everyone,” Olivia said. “But Sophia made one mistake.”

She opened her handbag and placed a thin folder on the table.

Inside were bank transfers, hotel receipts, company expense reports, and private messages printed in perfect order.

Emily stared at them.

“This isn’t just an affair,” Olivia said quietly. “Daniel has been using company money to pay for it.”

Emily’s face went pale.

Before she could answer, Olivia’s phone rang.

The caller ID showed one word:

Daniel.

Olivia answered calmly.

“Good morning, sweetheart.”

Daniel’s voice came through smooth and confident.

“Where are you?”

Olivia looked directly at Emily.

“Having breakfast.”

“With who?”

A pause.

Olivia smiled faintly.

“With the truth.”

Then she ended the call.

Across town, in his glass office, Daniel Carter lowered his phone.

For the first time in years, he looked afraid.
