CHAPTER 3 — “THE CHILD WHO WAS NEVER YOURS” (FINAL CHAPTER)

The mansion doors opened again.
But this time, no one entered.
Someone was already there.
A doctor stepped forward from Ricardo’s team, holding sealed documents.
He placed them on the table.
“Prenatal custody protection,” he said. “Filed two weeks ago.”
Santiago froze.
Ricardo’s voice lowered.
“The baby is under Salazar legal protection from this moment.”
Beatriz’s wine glass slipped from her hand.
It shattered on the marble floor.
Valeria exhaled slowly for the first time that night.
Not fear.
Not pain.
Release.
Santiago took a step forward.
“Valeria… please—this is my child.”
Ricardo stepped between them instantly.
“No,” he said coldly.
“Biology doesn’t make you a father.”
Silence.
The kind that doesn’t fade.
It suffocates.
Santiago looked at Valeria one last time.
Searching for something.
Forgiveness.
Fear.
Anything.
But Valeria only held her belly gently.
Protecting life.
Not the past.
Ricardo turned slightly to his attorneys.
“Proceed.”
Two security officers stepped forward.
Santiago didn’t resist.
Not because he couldn’t.
Because he finally realized—
there was nothing left to win.
As he was escorted out, Beatriz remained frozen, staring at the broken glass like it was her own reflection.
Outside, the city lights still flickered.
Still alive.
Still unaware.
Inside the mansion…
Valeria finally closed her eyes.
May you like
And for the first time in two years…
she felt safe.
