Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Attack

At the hospital, Clara refused to let go of Ethan’s hand.
The doctors rushed around her, checking the baby’s heartbeat, wrapping her injured wrist, cleaning the blood from her lip.
Ethan stood beside the bed without moving.
He had built companies, destroyed rivals, negotiated billion-dollar deals without blinking.
But seeing Clara in pain broke something inside him.
The monitor finally filled the room with the steady sound of their baby’s heartbeat.
Clara closed her eyes and cried.
Ethan exhaled for the first time.
Their son was alive.
Safe.
But Ethan’s phone buzzed.
His security chief’s voice came through low and tense.
“Sir… we found another recording.”
Ethan’s expression changed.
“What kind of recording?”
“A meeting in your office. Vivian wasn’t acting alone.”
Clara opened her eyes.
An hour later, Ethan played the second video inside the hospital suite.
On the screen, Vivian sat across from Ethan’s half-brother, Julian Hale.
Julian smiled as he slid a folder across the desk.
“Once Clara loses the baby, Ethan breaks. When he breaks, the board removes him. Then you get the mansion, and I get the company.”
Clara covered her mouth.
Ethan’s face went still.
Vivian’s attack had never been jealousy.
It had been planned.
Cruel.
Calculated.
A crime designed to destroy Clara, their child, and Ethan’s empire in one night.
Julian’s voice continued from the recording.
“Make it look like Clara attacked you first. She’s pregnant, emotional, easy to blame.”
Ethan turned off the video.
The silence afterward was colder than winter.
Clara whispered, “Your own brother…”
Ethan looked at her.
“No. Not anymore.”
By sunrise, the Hale Corporation boardroom was full.
Julian walked in wearing a perfect navy suit, smiling like nothing had happened.
Then he saw Ethan sitting at the head of the table.
Beside him sat two detectives.
On the screen behind them was the frozen image of Julian handing Vivian the folder.
Julian stopped walking.
His smile died.
Ethan stood.
“You wanted my company.”
He placed one document on the table.
“Now you’ll be lucky to keep your freedom.”
Julian tried to speak, but no words came out.
Within minutes, he was removed in handcuffs.
By noon, Vivian confessed.
By evening, every news channel in New York was reporting the scandal.
But Clara did not watch any of it.
She lay in her hospital bed, one hand on her belly, the other in Ethan’s.
For the first time in months, she felt safe.
Still, one fear remained.
“What if they come back?” she asked.
Ethan gently kissed her forehead.
“They won’t.”
Then he looked toward the window, where the city glowed beneath the night sky.
“Because this time, I’m not just protecting my company.”

He placed his hand over hers.
“I’m protecting my family.”
