Chapter 3: The One Who Shouldn’t Be Here (Final Chapter)

The rancher raised his rifle.
“Step away from the horse!”
The girl didn’t move.
She only looked at him.
Quietly.
Sadly.
“I didn’t come for the horse,” she said.
The stallion shifted behind her.
Protective.
Not wild anymore.
Controlled.
The rancher’s hands shook.
“Then what do you want?”
The girl reached into her pocket.
Slowly.
Carefully.
And pulled out a small broken metal tag.
She placed it on the ground.
The rancher’s face changed instantly.
Because he recognized it.
His breath stopped.
“That… impossible,” he whispered.
The girl stood.
And for the first time, her voice cracked.
“I was there when they burned Hollow Creek.”
The stallion’s eyes snapped open.
Suddenly wild again.
The calm shattered.
Dust exploded from its hooves as it reared violently.
But not toward the girl.
Toward the rancher.
Like it remembered him too.
The rifle trembled in his hands.
“Step back!” he shouted again.
But the girl shook her head.
Too late.
The stallion charged.
Fast.
Unstoppable.
Straight at him.
And just before impact—

The girl whispered one final sentence:
“It remembers who lit the fire.”
