CHAPTER 1 — “The Call That Changed Everything”

The silence in the Ashcroft estate was unnatural after she spoke.
Lucas didn’t laugh anymore.
Even Elena’s smile faltered for the first time that night.
“Your father?” Lucas repeated slowly.
Like the word tasted unfamiliar.
The woman he had just broken moments ago was now looking at him differently.
Not like a victim.
But like a warning.
I stayed on my knees, blood drying at the corner of my lips, phone still pressed to my ear.
A deep voice came through.
Calm. Controlled.
Powerful enough to bend rooms without entering them.
“I’m listening.”
I closed my eyes briefly.
Then I spoke.
“They finally did it, Dad.”
A pause.
A shift in tone.
“Where are you?”
“In the Ashcroft estate.”
Another silence.
Then—
“I’ll handle it.”
The line cut.
Lucas frowned. “What did you just do?”
I slowly stood up, ignoring the pain tearing through my body.
“For years,” I said softly, “you thought I was your asset.”
I met his eyes.
“You forgot I was born into a different kind of empire.”
Elena stepped back slightly.
Just one step.
But enough.
Because she felt it too now.
Something was coming.
And it wasn’t emotional.
It was structural.
Outside the estate gates—
Engines roared in the distance.
Not one.
Not two.
Dozens.
May you like
Lucas turned toward the sound for the first time.
His confidence cracked.
