CHAPTER 3 — EVERYTHING COLLAPSES

The stranger took a step back.
“Jack,” he said quietly, “you’re not the victim in this story.”
Then he pointed—not at Jack.
But at the girlfriend.
“She was protecting you from the truth.”
Jack turned to her.
For the first time, she wasn’t angry.
She was scared.
Not of him.
But of what was coming.
Sirens suddenly echoed in the distance—not part of the party, not part of the night. Real. Approaching.
Someone in the crowd shouted:
“Police are coming!”
Panic spread instantly.
People ran. Lights flickered. The beach turned into chaos.
But Jack didn’t move.
He stayed locked in place.
“Tell me everything,” he said.
The girlfriend wiped her tears.
“You left that night,” she said. “But something followed me after you.”
The stranger finished it:
“And now it’s back because you two are together again.”
Jack’s voice dropped:
“What are you talking about?”
She stepped closer, shaking.
“I never stopped thinking about what we created… because it wasn’t just a mistake.”
A pause.
“It was a person.”
The sirens grew louder.
Red and blue lights reflected across the ocean waves.
Jack finally understood the full weight of it.
Not betrayal.
Not jealousy.
Something far worse.
Truth.
The girlfriend whispered one last line:
“I didn’t want you to find out like this.”
Jack looked at both of them—then at the chaos behind them.
May you like
And for the first time all night…
he didn’t know who to trust.
