CHAPTER 25: THE FALL OF THE HOSPITAL

The archive erupted into chaos.
Capsule doors opened.
Children collapsed onto the floor, weak and confused.
Some could not walk.
Others screamed at lights they had not seen in years.
The countdown reached ninety seconds.
Adrian looked at Mason.
âWe canât move them all.â
Subject Zero stood without assistance.
Her hospital gown hung loosely around her thin body.
She placed one hand against the central control column.
The entire building went silent.
The countdown stopped.
Sebastian stared down from the upper level.
âNo.â
The girl looked at him.
âYou kept me asleep.â
Her voice was soft, but every speaker carried it.
Sebastian pressed the remote.
Nothing happened.
âYou belong to me.â
She tilted her head.
Then Sebastianâs right arm fell uselessly at his side.
Daniel stared at her.
âYou can control him without touching him.â
âI can feel every Helix implant.â
Adrian stepped closer.
âWhat is your name?â
The girl looked toward Elenaâs image.
âShe called me Grace.â
The hospital shook again.
The demolition had stopped, but the structure was already failing.
Grace opened the tunnel doors.
Emma pushed Eli toward Daniel.
Father and son touched hands for the first time.
Daniel closed his eyes.
Warmth passed between them.
Eli gasped.
His right foot moved.
Then his left.
Emma began crying.
Danielâs skin turned gray.
Eli realized what was happening.
âStop.â
Daniel kept his hand in place.
âDad, stop!â
Feeling rushed back into Eliâs legs.
At the same moment, Daniel collapsed.
Adrian caught him.
Eli stood shakily from the wheelchair.
His first steps carried him toward his father.
Daniel opened his eyes.
âI owed you that.â
âYou donât owe me your life.â
Before Daniel could answer, Sebastian ran toward Grace with a hidden blade.
Adrian stepped between them.
The blade entered Adrianâs side.
Mason fired.
Sebastian fell backward into the burning control room.
The floor collapsed beneath him.
He disappeared into the flames.
Grace looked toward the hole.
âHe isnât dead.â
âHow do you know?â Victoria asked.
May you like
Graceâs eyes became distant.
âBecause I can still feel him.â
