Chapter 4: The Truth Behind the Cakes

That afternoon, Caroline invited Maya and the little boy into her office upstairs.

The boy’s name was Noah.

His dog was called Lucky.

And Lucky’s birthday was the only thing Noah had smiled about since his father died.

Caroline listened quietly.

Then Maya finally told the truth.

Mr. Danton had been forcing employees to work fourteen-hour shifts.

He fired anyone who complained.

He donated cakes to charity only when cameras were present, then threw leftovers into locked trash bins so hungry people couldn’t take them.

Caroline’s expression grew colder with every word.

By evening, former employees began coming forward.
