Chapter 6: Maya’s Bakery

Two weeks later, Caroline called Maya back to the same storefront.
Maya thought she was there to give a final statement.
Instead, Caroline handed her a key.
“This block needs a bakery,” Caroline said. “A kind one.”
Maya stared at her.
“I don’t have money to start a business.”
Caroline smiled.
“You have something better. You have a heart people trust.”
The new bakery was called Second Chance Sweets.
Former employees returned.
Fresh bread went to shelters every evening.
A small bowl of dog biscuits sat by the door with a handwritten sign:

On opening day, Noah and Lucky were the first customers.
