Chapter 5: The Empty Storefront

The next morning, Mr. Danton arrived to find an eviction notice taped to his front door.
Health inspectors were waiting.
Former workers stood across the street.
Reporters gathered near the curb.
For the first time in years, Mr. Danton had no one to intimidate.
He saw Maya standing beside Caroline.
“You did this,” he hissed.
Maya looked at him calmly.
“No. You did.”
Inside the bakery, inspectors found mold behind the ovens, expired cream in the fridge, and fake donation records in his office.
By sunset, the doors were locked.
